The Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities announced the adoption of alternative water sources to address increased seawater turbidity, which caused irregular operation at the Mansoura New City desalination plant.
The ministry explained that adverse weather conditions and high wind speeds affected the quality of raw intake water, prompting immediate actions to maintain water supply and avoid service disruptions in residential areas.
Emergency measures included utilizing strategic storage tanks with a capacity of up to 20,000 cubic meters, operated on a rotational basis throughout the day, in addition to supplying certain districts and service facilities through temporary groundwater desalination plants.
Long-term plans involve technical solutions such as extending the desalination plant’s seawater intake further offshore and preparing coastal wells as alternative raw water sources during emergency situations, aiming to prevent future recurrence.
